Why Strengths, Why Now

In times of rapid change, uncertainty, and competing priorities, leaders face a pressing question: how do we bring out the best in our people while sustaining performance over the long term?

For too long, leadership has focused on identifying weaknesses, filling gaps, and fixing what’s “wrong.” While there’s value in improvement, research consistently shows that the greatest gains in performance and engagement come when we double down on strengths – the things people are naturally wired to do well.

The Case for Strengths-Based Leadership

Gallup’s global research is clear: when people use their strengths every day, they are:

6x more likely to be engaged at work. 3x more likely to report an excellent quality of life. 12.5% more productive on average.

In other words, helping people to operate from their strengths isn’t a “nice to have.” It’s a performance strategy.

Strengths-based leadership also creates cultural dividends. Teams that build around strengths see stronger trust, greater collaboration, and resilience under pressure – qualities every organisation needs in 2025.

Why Now

The workplace has shifted dramatically in recent years. Hybrid environments, constant change, and rising expectations of leaders have left many teams tired, distracted, and disconnected.

The old leadership playbook – focusing on weaknesses or driving output at all costs – is not sustainable. Leaders who succeed in today’s environment are those who:

  • Recognise and unlock individual strengths
  • Build teams where differences complement each other
  • Create cultures where people feel valued, energised, and motivated to contribute
  • That’s not just good for employees — it’s good for business.

Bringing Strengths to Life

At Authentic Leaders Group, we’ve seen first-hand the power of strengths-based leadership. From AFL premiership teams to multinational corporations, when leaders create space for people to do what they do best, performance takes off.

But it doesn’t happen by accident. It requires intentional leadership, practical tools, and the courage to reimagine how teams work together.

That’s why we’re hosting the Strengths-Based Culture Masterclass at Hamer Hall on Wednesday 12 November 2025. Together with Daniel Sih, Jack Riewoldt, Megan Waters, and Benjamin Northey, we’ll explore how to:

  • Activate the strengths of individuals and teams
  • Redesign the way we work, lead, and collaborate
  • Build cultures where people and performance thrive
